Welcome to Safe Kids Michigan!
Who We Are
Safe Kids Michigan is dedicated to preventing accidental injuries to Michigan children ages 1 to 14. Accidents such as motor vehicle crashes, falls, fires, drowning, and poisoning remain the leading killer of Michigan children ages 1-14. Accidents take more children’s lives than any other cause including disease, homicide and suicide.
What we do
Safe Kids Michigan works to reduce the number of preventable childhood deaths and injuries. We know that injuries are not accidents. Injuries occur in patterns, and risk factors can be identified. The good news is that injuries are preventable through increased use of safety equipment, environmental modification and behavior changes. Locally this is accomplished through community partnerships, advocacy, public awareness, and distribution of, and education on the proper use of safety equipment. Safe Kids Michigan depends on the support of grass roots networks in its 16 local coalitions to implement safety programs and hands-on training throughout the State of Michigan.
How we do it
Our local coalitions work closely with law enforcement officers, firefighters, paramedics, schools, health and safety experts, professionals, parents, businesses, governments, policymakers, volunteers, and most importantly, children to educate and protect families.
Safe Kids coalitions work at the local level to:
- Educate adults and children
- Create safe environments
- Conduct research
- Advocate for effective laws
We encourage you to join us as we continue working to protect Michigan children from accidental injury.
